Dear Parents:
We are making some changes to our uniform and dress code policy. We want you to be aware of these changes as you plan for next year. All pieces of our uniform are available at Dennis Uniform in Overland Park. They are located in Overland Park at 6322 College Boulevard. Jerry’s Sport Shop still has a few polo shirts available at a discounted rate.
Because of our contract with Dennis Uniform for 2009-2010, girls will be able to choose the skirt as a uniform option. However, it MUST be at the knee. If you have an upperclassman, who has a school skirt, please make certain that the hem has been adjusted for next year. If you cannot let out the hem, you will need to purchase a new skirt from Dennis Uniform if your daughter wants to continue to wear it as a uniform option. One suggestion to make sure the skirt is an appropriate length is to ask the student to bend over. If you can see any of her knee, the skirt is too short. Girls whose skirts are too short will be sent home on the first day of school.
Girls may want to choose a pants option. Please make sure that the pants are khaki in color and are free of outside pockets, rivets, or stitching. Girls who are wearing pants that are too low or too tight will also be sent home to change. Pants for both boys and girls are available at Dennis Uniform.
Our young men who have pants that do not fit at the natural waist will also be asked to go home and make appropriate changes.
All pants that have belt loops require a plain black or brown leather belt. Belt buckles must be small and appropriate (no larger than the belt).
You may choose a short sleeve or long sleeve polo, waffle cotton-poly knit, in blue, green, or white with the AOHS logo. If you have shirts from earlier years, you may wear them, but please make sure that these shirts are in good condition and are long enough that they can be tucked into the pants or skirt. Many of our young men have outgrown their freshmen shirts and are struggling to stay in compliance with the uniform code. Students have the option of choosing from a v neck sweater in green or navy for girls, a sweatshirt zip top with AOHS logo for boys or girls, a gray cardigan for either boys or girls, and a v neck vest in navy for boys or girls.
The hair code remains essentially the same. No designs in the hair are permitted (fades, lines, stars, etc.). Hair for both young men and young women should be of a “natural” color. Hair extremes are not acceptable. Hair should be short, neat, clean, and clear of eyebrows, off the collar, and off or clear of the cheeks. Gentlemen must be clean-shaven. Beards, mustaches, and extremes in grooming are not permitted. Sideburns may not extend onto the cheeks or face or below the earlobe. Earrings or other piercing may not be worn.
Socks must be visible and plain brown, black, white, or navy. Girls may wear tights with no other socks as an option and they must be solid black or navy. Shoes can be either athletic or leather with no patterns (including a repeating pattern of a logo like the C in Coach) or checks. No sandals, backless shoes, moccasins, or boots are permitted.
All dress code rulings are the responsibility of the Dean of Students and are final.
